#theoldpicturestory Phetchaburi Province, the city that many monarchs in the past chose as a place for a royal residence.
.
One of the most well-known and symbolic places of the province is “Phra Nakhon Khiri”.
.
Phra Nakhon Khiri was built during the reign of King Rama IV (King Mongkut). Its former name was Khao Samon because there are a lot of Sa Mon trees or the villagers, often called Kha Nang Ploi trees, growing on the mountain. Later, this area of the mountain was given the name “Phra Nakhon Khiri”, but the villagers often called it “Khao Wang” because it is the location of the palace.
.
Phra Nakhon Khiri consists of three peaks, which are the location of various buildings as follows:
– On the western peak is the royal palace and various buildings.
– On the middle or central peak is a big chedi.
– On the eastern peak is the location of Wat Phra Kaeo, a royal temple.
.
Currently, Phra Nakhon Khiri has been elevated to be Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park and Phra Nakhon Khiri National Museum.
