When you buck the trend and travel out of season, attractive prices for accommodation and fewer hassles are the icing on the cake!

📌 Day 1

Tha Pom Khlong Song Nam – a mangrove forest 🌳

Rain or shine, you can always visit Tha Pom mangrove, some 30 kilometres from Krabi town. Its crystal clear water is delightful, especially at low tide when the sea recedes and fresh water from inland pushes its way through the sea.

A 700-metre nature trail enables you to explore the mangrove and the diverse species of trees and fish it harbours.

You can see the water turning a muddy blue during high tide and bluish green at low tide, which gives the area its name Khlong Song Nam, the canal of two-coloured water. 😮😮

Exposed roots are visible all around, as they have evolved to breathe above the water. This is a magical place; an enchanted forest worth visiting by all the family.

There is a designated area for swimming. Make sure you follow the regulations that include not using shampoo or soap.

  • 💸 Admission: adult 100 Baht, child 50 Baht.

23 Roasters Krabi Café ☕

If you’re in the area of Ao Nang, don’t miss this café.

Its coffee beans are freshly roasted on site and you can smell the aroma the moment you step in the door. The Café has also been awarded SHA certification by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. 😍

According to the owner, the Café is so named because it is located in the 23rd parallel south, an area within the “green belt”, which is considered suitable for growing good coffee beans.

23 Roasters Krabi sources its beans locally and is very professional with the roasting process to ensure a good cup of coffee. Try it and let the barista know your verdict! 🥰

Besides the usual coffee menu, you can also find many other beverages, cakes and pastries. ☕

Ao Nang 🏖

Ao Nang is a popular beach and the centre of Krabi’s sea travel.

It is part of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park and characterised by its imposing limestone mountains. Visitors come for its pretty Andaman coastal beachfront, restaurants and shops, as well as access to dive sites off its bay.

It is also where you can buy long-tail boat tours to the beaches nearby, including a trip to the famous Railay Beach.

Thale Waek 🏖

Sunbathing on a sandy beach in the middle of the blue Andaman Sea is not an impossible dream when you’re in Krabi, thanks to a phenomenon known locally as Thale Waek, which happens when the sand dunes emerge as the water recedes at low tide. It is nothing short of a miracle that the sea suddenly parts, revealing the sand bridges that connect the cluster of three small islands.

⭐ Thale Waek occurs twice daily: once in the morning and again in the afternoon. The best chance to see it is 5 days before and after the full moon. You can recheck with the boat and tour operators about the timing. Please check the weather in advance.

🚤 To visit Thale Waek, you need to buy a tour package or rent a boat from Ao Nang. The trip takes about 15 – 20 minutes. The rent is about 2,000 Baht with 5-6 people on board, and the tour package costs about 2,200 Baht 💸 and covers small islands nearby plus Ao Railay.

Ao Railay 🏖

Although you can only get to Ao Railay by boat, it is not an island but in fact a large peninsula jutting out into the Andaman cut off from the rest of the mainland by a row of steep hills.

(The boat from Ao Nang takes about 20 minutes and the fare is 100 Baht per person.)

🧗 Railay covers two sides: East and West. Railay West is the longer of the two, featuring white sand and shallow water, an ideal spot for sunbathing. The picturesque Phranang Beach is also on this side. If you are keen on rock climbing, Railay East is a good spot to challenge yourself. Equipment rental and instruction are available

There is also a trekking route to the viewpoint that commands spectacular views of the area.

📌 Day 2

Khao Khanap Nam ⛰

Regarded as the symbol of Krabi, Khao Khanap Nam are two limestone mountains that are roughly 100 metres high and stand opposite each other on the banks of the Krabi River.

A scenic boat ride to Khao Khanap Nam, which is located among mangroves, is highly recommended. The area is also an archaeological site, and items recovered during the excavations suggest it was a settlement in prehistoric times.

Khao Khanap Nam is where you can find a cave with stalactites and stalagmites. It was also used by the Japanese army during WW II and you can see a small exhibition in the cave about this historical event.

However, although Khao Khanap Nam is an archaeological site, the skeletons and paintings you see are not real but are artworks installed as part of the Thailand Biennale, Krabi 2018.

  • 💸 Admission 30 Baht

The mountains can be reached by taking a 15-minute long-tail boat trip from Chao Fa Pier near Krabi District Office. The cave is about a ten-minute walk from the landing, and the boat fare is about 500 Baht per trip.

Caramel, the Taste of Life ☕

In case you’re looking for a comfortable eatery close to Chao Fa Pier, try this small café that has also been awarded SHA certification by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

The café’s homemade dishes include pasta, salads, cakes and pastries. 😍
