Taksin Maharat National Park

Taksin Maharat National Park covers the areas of Mueang District and Mae Sot District. You can travel all-year round.

The national park has limited the number of visitors to 400 per day. Tourists need to make a reservation on the QueQ application before visiting the park.

When arriving at the Park, don’t forget to stop by to greet “Thanwa”, the local buffalo bear. Thanwa is an orphaned bear born in 1997, with one more sibling. Its mother was shot dead when he was only 7 days old. Then the bear cubs were brought up here, at Taksin Maharat National Park. But Thanwa is the only survivor living in the Park until today.
Within the park, there are 10 guest houses as well camping ground. Here, the atmosphere is good, quiet, and suitable for travelling with the family and friends.

Price of accommodation start from 1,000-2,400 Baht, can accommodates 4-10 people.

Rental tent is 225 Baht, can accommodates 3 people. If you bring your own tent, the fee of a camping site is 30 Baht/person/night.

Another must-see when arriving at Taksin Maharat National Park is the big Krabak tree, which is about 2.5 kilometres from the office of the Park. You have to drive to park at the entrance to walk to see the tree. Then walk for about 400 metres.
The path to view the big Krabak tree is a pathway to study nature that is shady, but the way is quite steep. You have to prepare your body and drink water. Otherwise, you will definitely have to pant like me.
After walking for 400 metres, which was like 4 kilometres for me, we finally see the grandeur of the largest Krabak tree in Thailand. This tree is about 700 years old, has a height 50 metres and circumference of 16 metres. It was discovered in 1976 by Sawat Na Nan, an electrician at the Tak Telecommunication Station.
We depart from the Taksin Maharat National Park and head to Mae Sot District to pay respect to the Buddha image at Wat Thai Wattanaram.
Wat Thai Wattanaram, formerly known as Wat Mae Taw Ngiao or the Tai Yai temple. It was built by the Burmese in 1857. The buildings in the temple, including wihan, pagodas and statues are all influenced by the architectural styles of Tai Yai people from Myanmar.

When you arrive at this temple, you have to pay homage to Maha Myat Muni. This is a large Buddha image in the posture of subduing Mara, which is modeled after Maha Myat Muni, a priceless Buddha image in Mandalay, Myanmar.
There is also a large reclining Buddha, approximately 40 metres long enshrined in the Wihan behind the temple.
We continue our journey to Um Phang District by using the Mae Sot-Umphang road. It takes about 3 hours, which has to pass 1,219 bends. Whoever is motion sickness prepare an inhaler and motion sickness medicine to be ready. But despite how many bends there are along the way, I will be patient because there are still beautiful views to stop for taking pictures and a break.

Tonight, we stay at Umphang District. There are numerous types of good atmosphere accommodation here. In addition, each offers a tour package service to attractions in Um Phang District as well; such as, Doi Hua Lo, Thi Lo Su Waterfall, Thi Lo Re Waterfall, Pre To Lo Su Waterfall, etc.
Day 2
I wake up early to see the sunrise and the sea of mist at Doi Hua Mot, which is not far from the accommodation. I recommend going up to see the sea of mist clearly at the viewpoint around 05.30 Hrs. – 06.30 Hrs.

Umphang Subdistrict, Um Phang District, Tak
At Doi Hua Mot, there are 2 viewpoints: Km 9 Viewpoint, where you have to walk up the hill for about 1.5 kilometres and the viewpoint at Km 10, where you just walk up the hill 300 metres, which is the point where I choose to go up to see the view.
I can tell you that the mountain views are complicated, and the mist in the rainy season here is beautiful, not losing to other mountain ranges that I have visited.
It’s time to say goodbye to Um Phang District and go home after having breakfast.
Before going home, do not forget to buy souvenirs, so stop by at the Doi Muser Market, where there are many kinds of fruit, vegetables, snacks and appliances to choose from. I think that you will definitely find something here.

End the trip by going to find delicious food to eat at the Khao Mao Khao Fang restaurant. This restaurant has a very shady atmosphere. Inside there is a waterfall and a garden decorated with trees and various flowers, according to the shop’s slogan “Imaginary Forest”.

The menu that I ordered to eat is steamed seafood with young coconut, Chuchee Catfish, Sour Soup with Stir-fried Shrimp with Cha Om, Chicken with Cashew Nuts, Papaya Salad with Fruit and Roasted Pork Lap. Is there anyone who wants to try this order like me?

You may wonder if I went to Umphang District, why didn’t I go to Thi Lo Su Waterfall? This is also the highlight of this district.
